Look Who’s Going to College, Thanks to IYR Scholarships

Every year the Idaho Youth Ranch has the honor of awarding scholarships to graduates from our various programs to attend universities, colleges, or vocational/trade schools. Their application essays and interviews are always an inspiration to everyone on the review committee. One of the most rewarding parts of the process is the chance to learn what our IYR alums are up to and how their promising futures are taking shape.

Since three of our most recent scholarship recipients are alums we’ve previously featured in blog posts, newsletter stories and annual reports, we’re especially glad to be able to share that experience by updating you on their great news. Look who's going to college this semester:

Mackenzie “Mack” Cummins (a graduate of Hays Shelter Home in 2013 and YOUTHWORKS! first class in 2014) is studying Music at College of Western Idaho.

Dakotaha “Koda” Bledsoe (Ranch Campus graduate, 2011) is at Lewis & Clark State College pursuing a degree in Biology to teach Secondary Education.

Danielle Kuhrt (another YOUTHWORKS! 2014 graduate) is taking Interdisciplinary Studies at Boise State University.

Scholarships for Mack and Koda were provided by the Gilbert and Eleanor Thompson Scholarship Fund, established by Gilbert Thompson in memory of his wife Eleanor Thompson in 2000 by a provision in his will.

Danielle’s scholarship was made possible by the Alpha J. Houston Fund, established by her daughter Jane Houston in 2010, and the Diana G. Schulz Fund established by Usto Schulz in 2011.
