We help both parties come to the best solution possible for the child and continue to offer support as children grow, understand their past, and build their future.

IYR has worked with adoptive parents to provide loving, stable homes for newborns and older children. We know adopting a child into your family can feel overwhelming — our social workers are here with guidance, advocacy, and education at every step.
An independent or private adoption is not facilitated by an agency, but instead arranged by an attorney, clergy person, or other intermediary. About half of all infant adoptions in the U.S. are independent. IYR can provide a home study and related services for independent adoptions.
IYR can provide full-service agency adoption support. In a closed adoption, identifying information about birth parents is not shared with the adoptive family or child. IYR can provide home studies and support services for closed adoptions even when adoptive parents remain anonymous.
When a stepparent adopts their stepchild, they assume full custody of their spouse's child, and the non-custodial birth parent is legally released from parenting responsibilities. Most Idaho jurisdictions require a home study for stepchild adoptions. IYR can guide stepparents through the legal process with education, consultation, advocacy, and ongoing support.

There is no pressure to choose adoption, and our counselors will support you through whatever path you take.
Open adoptions vary widely in what they look like — they can range from occasional photo exchanges to regular contact between birth parents, adoptive parents, and the child. IYR works with both families to establish an arrangement that works for everyone, with the child's best interest at the center. We remain available to provide support as the child grows and questions arise.
There isn't one answer to this question. It depends on too many different things, such as how quickly paper work is completed, background check turnaournd time, when a child that fits with your family is available.
