Hays House is Idaho Youth Ranch's emergency youth shelter in Boise, a judgment-free, pressure-free space for young people ages 9 to 17 who are runaways, experiencing homelessness, victims of abuse or neglect, or who simply need somewhere safe to be. What is Hays House?

Hays House is Idaho Youth Ranch's emergency shelter for youth ages 9 to 17 in the Treasure Valley. It's a safe, short-term residential space for young people who have nowhere else to turn — whether they've run away, are experiencing homelessness, have faced abuse or neglect, or are in crisis and need immediate support. Hays House is also a Safe Place — a nationally recognized program that designates locations as safe havens where youth in crisis can get immediate help. If a young person walks through the door, we meet them where they are. No judgment. No pressure.

Hays House is for any young person ages 9–17 in the Treasure Valley who needs a safe place — for any reason, at any time. You don't need to have a perfect story or a plan. You just need to need help.

Hays House accepts referrals from schools, law enforcement, hospitals, social workers, state agencies, and other care providers. Walk-ins and self-referrals are also welcome.

Call our 24/7 helpline at 208-322-2308 anytime — day or night. You can also come to Hays House directly. There is no appointment needed in a crisis.

We meet you where you are

When you arrive, our team will welcome you without judgment. We'll make sure you're safe and comfortable, and let you settle in at your own pace.

We build a plan together

While you're at Hays House, our team will work with you — and, when appropriate, with your family or a case worker — to develop a plan for what comes next. We connect youth and families with additional resources, counseling, and long-term support as needed.

While at Hays House, youth have access to shelter, meals, and supportive staff. Ask the program team for the current list of on-site services and resources.

Safe Place Partnership

Hays House is a certified Safe Place partner. Safe Place is a national program that designates certain community locations as safe havens — places where youth in crisis can walk in and immediately receive help.

If you are having problems at home, suffering from abuse or neglect, or in a situation that feels dangerous, you can go to any Safe Place location and ask for help. A Hays House staff member will be contacted and will come to you. No questions, no judgment — just safety.

Any young person ages 9–17 in the Treasure Valley who needs a safe place. You don't need an appointment, a referral, or a specific reason. If you need shelter, safety, or support — we're here.

What if a youth just needs a place to stay for one night?

Hays House is designed for exactly that kind of situation. Short-term, immediate shelter is what we do. Call 208-322-2308 or come directly — our team is available around the clock.

Can a parent or guardian bring their child to Hays House?

Yes. Parents, guardians, social workers, school staff, and others can contact Hays House on behalf of a young person in need. Call 208-322-2308 to discuss the situation with our team.

Our team works with each youth and their support system to develop a plan for what comes next — whether that's returning home safely, connecting with additional services, or another housing option. We don't just shelter young people; we try to help them find a path forward.
