    Why Idaho Kids need support right now

    Across our state, the mental health needs of young people are growing — and too often, support hasn’t kept pace.

    Idaho currently ranks last in the nation for youth mental health outcomes, and the suicide rate among Idaho teens is nearly twice the national average. Behind those numbers are kids struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and a lack of access to consistent care — especially in rural and underserved communities.

    For many families, finding help feels overwhelming. For many kids, it feels out of reach.

    Hailey's Journey

    When Hailey came to Idaho Youth Ranch at age 10, she didn’t feel safe enough to sleep on her own.

    With steady care and simple, consistent routines — being read a bedtime story, having someone nearby so she knew she wasn’t alone — Hailey slowly began to settle. Night by night, she learned to soothe herself and trust the adults caring for her.

    Over time, she gained confidence, learned basic self-care skills, and began to feel safe again. With support continuing at home, Hailey was able to reunite with family who could offer her stability and care.
