Our mission and values are evident in our residential care model. We believe in family, in work, in harnessing the influence of peers, and in individual responsibility. We believe that each of us is part of a community, and has developed, in part, because of how we were raised. We believe in change, and in the power of honest relationships to bring about such change. Six residential homes fall under the Idaho Youth Ranch residential care program.
A collection of farm buildings and residential, educational and recreational centers situated on 500+ acres near Rupert, Idaho, The Ranch provides an optimum environment for treating at-risk boys and girls.
The program is managed by licensed clinicians who provide 24-hour supervision and teach critical life skills using an array of programs such as: group therapy, anger management, horsemanship and 4-H. The “ranch-like” environment and staff can care for up to 56 boys and girls ages 12 to 18. The Ranch is located in southeastern Idaho and over the past 50 years, several new buildings have emerged including: five residential lodges, administrative offices and staff housing, an on-site school, a gymnasium, an indoor riding arena, a dining hall, a chapel, a firehouse, a wood shop, and several farm buildings that house horses and cows. An on-campus, special education school is operated under the auspices of the local school district. The education and counseling programs, coupled with the animals and outdoor activities, build independence, change attitudes and create lessons that will hopefully last a lifetime.

Hays Shelter Home provides 24-hour emergency care and crisis services to male and female youth, ages 9 through 17. Youth participate in normal daily activities such as school, chores, recreational activities and community outings. All youth receive individual counseling and group counseling, and have access to family counseling when appropriate. The daily routine incorporates a pro-active intervention model that creates a “re-claiming” environment. Activities are structured around four basic needs of youth: belonging, mastery, independence and generosity. The program provides opportunities for youth to find positive ways to meet these needs and teaches responsibility by using a system of natural and logical consequences for behavior. Hays Shelter Home is the only shelter of it’s kind in Southwest Idaho.
