Do you know a teen girl struggling with anxiety?
Idaho Youth Ranch is offering a 10-week group for Treasure Valley Teen Girls, ages 13-17, who are looking for ways to learn to cope with anxiety.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that focuses on making connections between thoughts, feelings and behavior. Young developing people often develop distorted core beliefs about themselves. A goal of CBT is to help individuals identify and change patterns of thinking or behavior and in turn change the way they feel.
CBT is one of the most popular interventions for adolescent anxiety. Idaho Youth Ranch has taken the CBT approach and blended it with the experiential approach of Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP). EAP is a unique and powerful therapy that also helps the youth gain important insights into their behavior and it easily combines with other therapies, like CBT. EAP is a ground-based therapy that pairs horses with people to overcome emotional issues and many mental health conditions.
The Takeaways:
- Mindfulness skills to self-sooth and stay in the here-and-now
- Learn to identify and challenge thoughts that cause anxiety
- Build coping skills to manage anxiety in a supportive
group environment - Learn relaxation techniques and problem-solving methods
