DONATIONS

We believe that "one man's junk is another man's treasure". However, some junk truly belongs at the landfill and not at our thrift stores. Accepting items that can't be resold in our thrift stores would place a financial burden on the Idaho Youth Ranch and our programs for at-risk youth and families. Please donate “gently used items” that are appropriate for resale at our thrift stores.

What We Are Able To Accept

We are happy to accept these items in re-sellable condition:

  • Vehicles: automobiles and trucks (including commercial), motorcycles, RVs, ATVs, trailers and boats
  • Furniture (residential and commercial): couches, chairs, desks, barstools, beds, tables, dressers, hutches, patio sets, chaise lounges, grills, mirrors, cabinets, shelving and dividers
  • Appliances (small and large): refrigerators, stoves, microwave ovens, coffeemakers, juicers, blenders, toaster ovens and toasters
  • Electronics: desktop and laptop computers (no monitors), keyboards, software and games, hardware, connectors, cameras, stereos, speakers, flat-screen televisions and cell phones
  • Household Items: dishes, cookware, glassware, utensils, lamps, artwork, picture frames, holiday decorations, games, stuffed animals, sports equipment, yard equipment, bicycles, tools and collectibles
  • Books, Music and Movies: popular fiction and nonfiction hardback and paperback books, textbooks, DVD movies, music CDs and musical equipment
  • Clothing and Accessories: new and gently used clothing that is appropriate for resell, shoes, jewelry, purses, towels, blankets, bedspreads, sheets, curtains and rugs

WHAT WE ARE NOT ABLE TO ACCEPT

Here is a list of items that we can no longer accept at our thrift store donation drop sites and distribution centers. Thank you!

  • Broken or severely damaged items
  • Stained or soiled items
  • Old or non-working electronics
  • Certain building materials
  • Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) Televisions
  • Toilets
  • Hot water tanks
  • Furnaces
  • Computer Monitors
  • Tires
  • Infant cribs
  • Car seats
  • Umbrella style strollers
  • Hazardous Waste (items such as, but not limited to: chemicals, paint, solvents, insecticides, flammables, items with cathode ray tubes, etc.)

SCHEDULE A DONATION PICK-UP

You can arrange for donations to be picked up in the Boise area (Boise, Garden City, Meridian and Eagle), it can take up to three weeks for us to pick up your items so please plan accordingly. To maximize our efficiencies and help us save on the high cost of fuel, we encourage you to deliver small donations to the store closest to you, or to our new distribution center (Nagel Center) located at 5465 W. Irving Street in Boise near Saint Alphonsus and the I-184 Curtis Road exit. Your generous donations help at-risk youth and their families throughout Idaho.

TAX DEDUCTIONS

Donors who itemize on their federal returns may be eligible for both a federal and state tax deduction for the fair market value of their contribution. Idaho taxpayers may, in addition, be eligible for a tax credit for 50% of that value, up to the legal limit. Please consult your tax professional about your specific situation.

The Idaho Youth Ranch Business Contributions Program gives Idaho businesses the opportunity to support at-risk youth and their families by contributing cash and/or non-cash donations. Every contribution, large or small, helps the Idaho Youth Ranch accomplish its mission.
