IDAHO YOUTH RANCH FOUNDATION

Idaho Youth Ranch (IYR) Foundation was established in 1984 as an independent, non-profit corporation in Boise, Idaho. The Foundation exists solely to support, promote, and advance the charitable and educational purposes of the Idaho Youth Ranch (founded in 1953). The affairs of the Foundation are under the watchful eye of a Board of Directors. The volunteer members of this board have many years of personal and professional portfolio management. The Foundation Board, in turn, employs one or more professional firms as investment managers.

The Foundation’s principal activity is building the IYR Endowment Fund. This fund is invested following a carefully considered, conservative Investment Policy to further the IYR’s mission, and to assure the long-term financial security of the Idaho Youth Ranch. The endowment is currently managed by the firm of Burroughs and Hutchinson, Boise, Idaho.

The IYR Endowment Fund operates much like a long term retirement account. One major difference, however, is that contributions into the endowment through wills, trusts, annuities, life insurance or other estate arrangements are restricted, in the sense that only earnings can be spent. If a supporter leaves $10,000 to the Ranch this year, that same $10,000 will be there 50 years later. People who designate part of their estate to the Foundation, regardless of the amount, are recognized as generous visionaries and become members of the IYR Bridge Builders Society.
