THRIFT STORE ASSISTANT MANAGER

Assists in the overall management of the store including but not limited to handling merchandise donations, supervising employees, and customer relations.

    • Job Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

      • Oversees the daily operations of store, including staff scheduling, volunteer management, work assignments, training, open/close activities, and personnel-related issues in the absence of the Store Manager.

      • Maintains agency quality assurance standards.

      • Ensures compliance with all safety guidelines including the proper handling of merchandise, ADA and other government regulations, company standards in securing property, and managing theft. Conducts safety meetings.

      • Serves as a representative of the Idaho Youth Ranch to both staff and members of the community.

      • Operates cash registers, credit card machine and check processing equipment.

      • Ensures the accuracy of all monetary transactions.

      • Performs functions related to the daily opening, daily operation, and daily closing of a store.

      • Compiles daily sales and makes bank deposits.

      • Operates pallet jacks, hand-carts, lift gates, and other loading/moving equipment.

      • Sorts, cleans, prices, and stocks donated merchandise. Regularly moves large boxes, furniture and appliances.

      • Adheres to all agency policies and procedures.

      • Scope:

          Number of Associates Supervised: Varies 3 – 10 Indirectly: Varies 1-12

          Job Requirements:

          Relevant Experience, Education, Certification, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Incumbent Must Possess to Perform Job Adequately:
        • Associates degree in Business or related field required

        • A minimum of two years supervisory experience in retail or similar industry

        • Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills

        • Ability to effectively organize; structure activities and manage staff

        • Demonstrated work ethic, integrity and professional conduct

        • Strong interpersonal communication and sales skills

        • Interest in and knowledge of the retail environment, including general knowledge of popular brands, product pricing and antiques

        • Basic computer usage skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

        • Ability to work weekend hours regularly

        • Valid state issued drivers license and reliable transportation

        • Physical Requirements, Mental, Equipment & Working Condition Elements:

          • Capable of lifting at least 40 pounds

          • Stooping, bending, twisting, lifting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties

          • Incumbent may stand for long periods of time

          • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including hot and cold environments regularly

          • Must be able to accurately discern colors

          • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
